Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine which has been found useful in treating a number of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, OCD and PTSD. In conjunction with psychotherapy, On its own, Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which take effect within 1-2 hour after treatment and last for up to 2 weeks. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors and stimulating AMPA receptors, which seems to assist in forming new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.
Ketamine is administered by various methods: IV infusion, intramuscular injection, nasal spray and sublingual lozenges. Through Journey Clinical I am able to use the sublingual lozenge form in my work.
